John Anthony Bailey: The Sad Descent from "Sticks" to Dicks

I was cruising around a great site for the Gen-X set: www.70slivekidvid.com and I came across the "Wonderbug" entry. I looked at the cast and one of the cast stuck out, "John Anthony Bailey." I dug via IMDB and found that his early career was kind of noteworthy: he was "Sticks" the black friend in Happy Days; he was on Mannix; he did his stint on Wonderbug. Then where he go? Straight to porn and stayed there until his death in 1994.

It seems like kid's TV wasn't a happy affair. Judy Strangis (the Dyna Girl of Electra Womand and Dyna Girl) had to give up acting because she was being stalked. Of course, looking at her filmography, I think the real problem was that she wasn't be stalked by producers.

Now, I have to dig through the other biographies of former stars in kid's shows. I have a sinking feeling that many of them turned to video porn after their kid's shows went off the air (I'm looking your direction, Bob Denver).

Yo, I recognize this kat! He was also in the Sun Ra movie Space Is The Place. Damn. What a fall from grace. But I guess most child stars don't make the transition to adult roles too well.

He wasn't a child during his stint on happy days, Wonderbug, Good-Times ect. He was my father. It seems that his fall from grace was due to his love of alcohol which made him a bit unbearable to deal with. I was young and loved him enough to just assume he was being the same silly daddy he always was. He desired not much more that simply being remembered so I do what I can to keep that flame alive. He was a colourful and loving father and I am very blessed to have had him as such. I really thinks "Sticks" Downey was the real him. looked great and funny as heck..I'm proud of everything he did but Sticks is my favourite. Anyhow, Thank You for remembering John.

Dear Ms. Bailey,
I met your Father once. I worked at a bank in Encino and he came in. He was very nice and I recalled him from "Wonderbug". He did the "CC Arms" when I mentioned it.
